  • Revisiting iplaymathgames.com

Posted on September 15th, 2009 Ethan No comments

We reviewed iplaymathgames.com back in March this year.  They have made some great updates to their site and have now converted most of the content to free content.

    from their homepage

WHY ARE THE ONLINE MATH GAMES FREE?

    • Because, let’s face it, that’s what people want. Don’t you get frustrated when you search for a game on fractions, the Google search takes you there and you find out that you have to pay for it, buy something else or sift through a bunch of surveys and advertising before you get this “free” math game or activity?
    • Market data suggests that there are 1,500,000 teachers in the U.S. associated with math and that these teachers spend an average of $50 per year on games like IPlayMathGames.com offers. Add home school parents to that number and it more than doubles. So making these games free is IPlayMathGames.com’s own little economic stimulus program that doesn’t cost the American taxpayer one cent!

They still offer hard-copy versions of their content through their website and Amazon.com store.

  • LSOTM: Snowprofessor.com – How-To Snowboard Videos

Posted on April 7th, 2009 Ethan 2 comments

    Today we visit Snow Professor
    http://www.snowprofessor.com/

    overview

Snow Professor is a sister/brother combo that provides videos that will teach you how to snowboard.  From the beginners basics to more complex tricks and methods for advanced riders.  Along with the videos are great scripts that will not only make you a better snowboarder, but may cause you to laugh a couple times.

They offer all of their videos free of charge.  Also on the site are equipment reviews and links to websites where you can get all of your gear for cheap.

Jill and Rick are both certified instructors with plenty of credentials.

    our take
    We love it!

Content is very fresh.  They are adding new videos almost weekly.  Videos are high quality so you can view the details over and over if you haven’t quite gotten the moves/steps down yet.

Since the videos are online, it does allow you to improve without the use of an instructor and taking lessons in person.  But perhaps improvements from watching their videos will inspire snowboarders to get out and take more snowboarding lessons to get even better.

So stop reading this review and start watching their vids already!!!

  • LSOTM: iplaymathgames.com, March 5th 2009

    Today we visit iplaymathgames.com
    http://www.iplaymathgames.com/

    overview
Like yesterday with Swing Mentors, iplaymathgames.com is a great resource that allows you, your child or your students to improve skills while away from a teacher/tutor.  They offer simple downloads of worksheets/workbooks as well as hard copies that they will ship you.

Their offerings are for ages 4-18 in the following skills:

    • addition/subtraction
    • multiplication/division
    • fractions/decimals/percents
    • algebra/long division
    • measurement
    • graphing/exponents
    • problem solving
    • puzzles and games
    • geometry
    • probability/logic reasoning
    • numeration/counting/patterns

You can get a couple free downloads by signing up with your email address. Free Download here.

Worksheets/workbooks are available via downloadable PDF files (Adobe Acrobat) and some are available as hard copy books that you can get shipped.  They are continuing to add to their library of options for you

Currently they offer 25 workbooks and approximately 300 downloadable worksheets.  The price of the workbooks range from $9-$21 and the worksheets are sold for $0.99 each.

They also offer a Math Mail newsletter to stay current on their products and promotions.
    our take

Our take is that if you are a tutor, teacher or a parent, this is the place for you!  Math can be hard to explain and using games as a method of teaching meets kids where they are at.  iplaymathgames.com will help the student get ahead in class, test preperation!  Math can make many students nervous or scared of the subject, these products can help change that mindset and show students that math can be doable & fun!
